This was our last full day in London. The main item on today’s agenda was Sunday Roast with a couple my in-laws met at Disney World a couple of decades ago.
Of course, Kel and I need to take the Underground to the restaurant, and, you guessed it—the Pimlico station was closed. Again. We ventured to Victoria station and headed Knightsbridge. On the way to the restaurant, we came across a Bugatti on display. The doorman invited us inside and cautioned against touching. He said nothing about drooling.

We continued on to the restaurant. And passed it. Reconsulting Google Maps, we turned around and ended at the door to the Hawksmoor, a fantastic restaurant with an easily missed sign.
The atmosphere was great and food incredible. The roast beef was like Mom used to make. I also had Yorkshire pudding. I was expecting something like tapioca. Instead, it was like a bread bowl with a potato inside. What’s not to like?
Afterward, we went to the Millennial Bridge. This is the bridge that Death Eaters destroyed at the beginning of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. And it appeared at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy during the battle on Xandar.
I had to walk across. Drizzle made the metal deck slippery, so I watched my step. An unexpected trip to the optician is one thing, a trip to the emergency room is something else entirely.

Then we walked through St. Paul’s Church, which was nearby. Out of respect, I didn’t take any pictures of the magnificent architecture and displays inside. Outside was a display showing the damage from WWII bombings.
The evening was spent watching the Snooker final and packing because we had to leave early the next morning for Kings Cross station and a train to Scotland.

I’m an author living in northern Virginia with a wife and a cat. In the late ’80s, I worked on the International Space Station project. I recently retired from managing a group of software engineers to focus on writing science fiction and speculative fiction. Learn more.
